The Botanist Gin Range: Islay Dry Gin, Islay Cask Rested Gin, Islay Cask Aged Gin. Product photography by Maker

The Botanist Gin

February 05, 2024

The Botanist Islay Dry Gin is one of our favourite brands - silky liquid, masses of provenance and integrity, great people. It’s made locally, on the next island, yet its reach is truly global.

We recently created the product photography for the launch of their innovative range of Cask Aged and Cask Rested Gins at our studio in Jura. These spirits are a further development for the gin category, inspired by what happens in the world of Tequila. The complex, fruity, extra savoury gins are phenomenal for cocktails - which we discovered as part of the photography brief! A short film and photography capturing a launch event with influential bartenders at the distillery followed.

Hugh was also responsible for the product photography for their previous innovations - The Botanist Hebridean Strength - Travellers’ Exclusive, and The Botanist Plant Conservation Edition x BGCI.

We’ve enjoyed producing cocktail shoots and drinks photography (cocktails) for The Botanist over the last four years, often on location in lifestyle settings. Lately, we’ve added full Drinks Tech capability to our services.

Another highlight was The Botanist’s “Look Further” campaign film and advertising assets in 2021, for which Hugh commissioned Oscar-winning CGI / animation production house, Framestore, to bring to life his idea for a visual treatment using The Botanist’s iconic glass as a lens. He was also responsible for the photography used in the campaign.

Katie Smith - The Botanist’s Global Brand Manager, Communications - shares her thoughts on how we get to these sparkling results. “I am consistently impressed with the passion and creativity that Jane and Hugh bring to each and every shoot. From thinking through every element of design and production, to the rigorous planning they do which enables you just to turn up on set, working with them is a pleasure.”
